WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VEHICLE TYRES.

MAINTENANCE OF TYRES
Tyres should be removed once it reaches the age limit, regardless of appearance, mileage or actual wear. However, most tyres will need replacing before they reach expiring age. It is important to keep a close eye on the condition of your tyres. Regularly check your tyre's condition and inflation pressure, if you notice any visible damage or performance changes, such as cracking, increased air loss or additional noise or vibration, take your tyres to a professional to check. You can always find a long list of vendors from our website http://www.dspareszone.com or download our app
on playstore or app store. Unmaintained tyre can lead to severe hazards for vehicles and people, ranging from flat tyres, making the vehicle inoperable to blowouts. Where tyres explode during operation this can possibly damage vehicles, injure people or even cause death.
TYRE ROTATION
Tyre rotation is changing the position of the tyres on the car, like moving them from the front to the rear or switching them from left to right. Tyres wear out at different rates depending on where they are positioned on the car. For example, the front tyres wear out quicker than the rear tyres because they bear more weight and steer the car. Rotating your tyres ensure they wear evenly and last longer making them to wear out uniformly, which is the safest scenario. It is also important to adjust the pressure of the tyres to suit their new positions after rotation.
TYRE AGE
Tyres are made of various types of textiles, steel and rubber compounds that have properties that evolve over time. As the rubber in a tyre gets older and is exposed to the elements, the strength of the bond between the rubber and the steel belts is reduced. When an old tyre is put under load, cracks in the rubber will begin to form. The cracking can cause the steel belts in the tread to separate from the rest of the tyres. Driving on such a tyre is a serious safety risk.
TYRE PRESSURE
Generally, the most recommended tyre pressure is 32-35 psi for cars. If that is the case, even 36-38 psi will be fine for the user. Any pressure lesser than that is dangerous and can prove dangerous (like 28 psi) however it is advisable to follow the manufacturer recommended pressure. Credit car & bike.
This should be obvious that driving on underinflated tyres will be catastrophic. The underinflation increases the friction between the road and the tyres, making it difficult to drive.

One of the major myths surrounding over-inflated tyres is that they save fuel. That is not true. Overinflation decreases the friction between the road and the tyre.
That isn't good news since that makes it more difficult for the driver to control the car. Credit car & bike
TYRE EXPIRY DATE
Vehicle tyres are often given a 4-5 year validity period from the date of manufacture (DOM). Check the age of your tyre by looking for the 10–12-digit serial tyre identification number, found on the tyre's sidewall. This identification number is usually proceeded by the acronym "DOT". For example: DOT AMCB LKE 2609 or check for a stamp like this: (*5210*). There is an asterisk at the beginning and at the end of this serial number.
The DOT means- Department of transportation.
AM means- Plant code.
CB means- Tyre Size code.
LKE means- Tyre manufacturer.
The first two numbers 5 2 will tell which week of the year it has been manufactured, the last two
numbers 1 0 represent the year of production.
Therefore, *5210* shows that the said tyre is manufactured in the 52nd week of the year 2010.
VIOLATION FINES
Usage of unworthy tyres are lawfully prohibited in Nigeria and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) impounds any vehicle found in violation of such laws and the vehicle owner will be enforced to pay a violation fine as follows: -
*Driving with worn-out tyres (TYV) N3,000.00
*Driving with expired/without spare tyre (EWT) N2,000.00
RECOMMENDATIONS
It is recommended that all tyres beyond 3 years old be inspected by a qualified expert at least 3 times a year. With DSparesZone App or website, you can get qualified experts that will check your tyres and let you know whether your tyres are safe for continued use. If the tyres were original equipment on the vehicle, you should also follow the vehicle manufacturer’s tyre replacement recommendations where specified. For safety reasons, do not use expired or worn-out tyres because they are likely to burst. For more enquiries about where to get original tyres and experts to fit or inspect your tyres, contact DSparesZone through http://www.dspareszone.com.
